For millennia, humans produced light by burning something. Edison's key breakthrough, however, involved getting a filament not to burn- with the energy sourced and transmitted in a different way. It's time we took inspiration from that.
As industry advanced- through the now-familiar versions 1.0, 2.0, etc., there was more progress, more benefits to society. Except that the pace was such, we never could take a high-level view on the long term. We're now at a point where we simply must; and instead of trying to define an Industry version number, we think it's better we re-imagine it from the start, starting with energy. Our new version is "Ecodustry", a mash-up of "ecology" and "industry".
Let's produce goods and services by not burning up fossil fuels, and instead keep fossil resources as feedstock for longer-lived applications.
